President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Nolan is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Eversource Energy. He is also Chairman and a director of NSTAR Electric Company, NSTAR Gas Company, Public Service Company of New Hampshire and Yankee Gas Services Company.

Previously, Mr. Nolan served as Executive Vice President-Strategy, Customer and Corporate Relations of Eversource Energy since February 5, 2020. Prior to that, Mr. Nolan served as Executive Vice President-Customer and Corporate Relations of Eversource Energy from August 8, 2016 to February 5, 2020.

Mr. Nolan also serves on the Boards of Directors of the Needham Bank, NB Bancorp, Inc., Edison Electric Institute, President's Council, MGH Institute of Health Professionals, New England Council, Chairman’s Council, Boston Children’s Hospital, Intercontinental Real Estate Corporation, Long Island, New York Association, Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund and Camp Harbor View Foundation. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and his Master of Business Administration degree from Boston College.

Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer

John M. Moreira is Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer at Eversource Energy, New England’s largest energy company.  Eversource serves approximately 4.6 million electric, natural gas and water customers in nearly 600 cities and towns across Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire.

John is responsible for all accounting, treasury and strategic financial planning activities of the company.  The scope of responsibilities also includes oversight of the company’s investor relations program, pension plan investments, enterprise risk management and insurance programs, state and federal rate activities, supply chain and real estate operations.

He is an accomplished financial executive with extensive experience in accounting, tax, strategic financial planning, finance, SEC financial reporting, merger and acquisition related activities, implementation of financial systems, and complex financial matters.  

Prior to his current appointment, John was Senior Vice President of Finance & Regulatory and Treasurer.  In this roll he successfully led the acquisition of Aquarion Water Company and recently, the acquisition and integration of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts.  Prior to joining Eversource, John was employed as Acting Controller at Eastern Utilities Associates (EUA).  At EUA John oversaw all accounting and tax matters and was a member of the company’s Senior Leadership Team.  

John is a member of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) CFO Committee and a former member of the EEI/Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Liaison Committee and Accounting Standard Committee.  He is a board member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s Foundation Board.

John holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from Curry College.  John is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Rhode Island.   

Gregory B. Butler

Executive Vice President & General Counsel

Gregory B. Butler is Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Eversource Energy. He is responsible for Legal, Corporate Governance, Federal Governmental Affairs, Internal Audit and Security, and Energy Supply.

Greg serves as a member of the Board of Directors of numerous Eversource subsidiaries as well as the Eversource Energy Foundation. He also serves on the Boards of the following: AdvanceCT, Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, Hartford Healthcare, the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, United Way of Connecticut, New England Council, Goodwin University as well as the advisory boards of the Tagliatela School of Business and Stony Brook University School of Arts and Sciences.  He is a member of the Connecticut Ireland Business Council, Energy Bar Association and is a senior fellow of The American Leadership Forum.  Greg has been awarded the “Good Scout Award” by the Boy Scouts of America; he was named a Lawyer of Distinction by In-House Counsel magazine as well as Distinguished Alumni by Onondaga Community College and Albany Law School.  He is a member of Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame and was named the Humanitarian of the Year by the Greater Waterbury NAACP.  In 1999, he was appointed by Governor John Rowland to the Connecticut Board of Parole and served on that Board until 2005.

Butler served on Transition Teams for Governor-elects Dannel P. Malloy and Ned Lamont.  He formerly served as Chairman of the Madison County (NY) Republican Party; and has played roles in numerous political campaigns at state, local and national levels.

Prior to joining Eversource, Greg was an Executive with New England Electric System and Niagara Mohawk; a Senior Attorney in the United States Justice Department and Associate Counsel to the NY State Assembly Republicans.

A native of Cazenovia, New York, Greg earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1980 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the Albany Law School of Union University in 1988. He is admitted to the practice of law in New York and to the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
Greg and his wife, the former Connecticut House Republican Leader Themis Klarides, live in Woodbridge, Connecticut. Greg has two grown daughters, Reverend Elizabeth Butler Arulampalam and Sarah Butler Wasmund.

Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer

Paul Chodak III joined Eversource Energy as Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer in November 2023. In this role, he leads the electric transmission and distribution, gas, water, electric engineering and grid modernization, enterprise emergency preparedness, offshore wind project execution, operations services, and safety organizations.  

Before joining Eversource, Paul worked at American Electric Power in Operations roles for 22 years. He most recently served as AEP’s Executive Vice President of Generation, where he was responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of AEP’s regulated power plants, including wind, solar, and hydro facilities. He led a “net zero-carbon” transformation of AEP’s fossil generation fleet. Previously, Paul was the Executive Vice President of Utilities and led seven utility companies within AEP’s footprint of 5 million customers in 11 states throughout the U.S. Midwest and Southern regions. Prior to that, he was the President and Chief Operating Officer for both Indiana Michigan and Southwestern Electric Power Companies and also held positions in engineering, environmental, project management and construction throughout his career with AEP.

Paul holds a doctorate in nuclear engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is also a veteran, having served 12 years in the US Navy, and has held Board roles in several community organizations and colleges.

Executive Vice President Customer Experience and Energy Strategy

Penni McLean-Conner is Executive Vice President of Customer Experience and Energy Strategy. In this role, she is responsible for Eversource’s (NYSE: ES) energy strategy to drive enterprise growth and valued energy service to customers.  She also ensures that Eversource’s 4 million electric and gas customers are provided with a high-quality customer experience and valued energy management tools and solutions.

Penni is a recognized thought leader in the utility industry with over 35 years of experience implementing positive change in the areas of leadership, superior customer service, and energy management programs.  Penni works across the entire organization to understand energy, technology, and customer trends to inform and develop energy strategy and incorporate strategy into operational and capital plans.  She leads an integrated team of customer service employees, charged with delivering consistent, positive customer experiences across multiple platforms.  Her team provides valued clean energy solutions, including nationally recognized energy efficiency programs, electrification solutions, community based solar development, electric vehicle infrastructure, and growing demand management solutions.  Penni assumed her current role in May 2021.

She is a strong voice in the industry, especially on issues related to clean energy solutions, strategy and customer experience, and also serves on industry boards.  Penni is a Director for ESCO Technologies (NYSE: ESE).  ESCO Technologies is a St. Louis-based company providing highly-engineered products with subsidiaries operating throughout the United States and the world.  Penni is the co-chair of Boston University’s Institute for Global Sustainability.  Penni also chairs the board of American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) and Innovate Utility Customer Experience (IUCX), among others.

Penni is a columnist for the Climate and Energy Journal and the author of three books on customer service and energy topics.  The most recent, Profiles in Excellence: Utility Chief Customer Officers, shares the stories of eight all-star chief customer officers who have demonstrated success in creating a customer-focused culture.

Penni is a 2016 recipient of the New England Women in Energy and the Environment Achievement Award.  She was also honored in 2017 with the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Pinnacle Award for Achievement in Management.

Penni holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from North Carolina State University and is a registered Professional Engineer.  She and her family reside in Massachusetts.

Executive Vice President Corporate Relations and Sustainability and Secretary

Jim Hunt is Executive Vice President, Corporate Relations and Sustainability for Eversource Energy, New England’s largest utility. He is responsible for the strategic oversight of Eversource Energy’s activities in sustainability, environmental affairs, regulatory affairs, community relations, communications and corporate governance.  He also serves as the Secretary to the Eversource Board of Trustees.

Jim assumed his current role in May 2021. He oversees the company’s interactions with state utility regulators and local officials, as well as community relations and economic development strategies.  His duties include oversight of Eversource’s sustainability and environmental programs, as well as Eversource’s multi-faceted communications channels. Jim also served as Eversource’s Interim Chief Operating Officer (COO) between March and November 2023 during the company’s hiring process for a permanent COO.

Before joining Eversource, Jim was Chief of Environment and Energy for the City of Boston, with leadership roles in energy planning, zoning, and climate action.  Prior to his work with the city, Jim served as Assistant Secretary for Environmental Review for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

In addition to his Eversource responsibilities, Jim sits on several boards including the Massachusetts Business Roundtable, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, and the Ouimet Scholarship Fund.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School. He is a lifelong resident of Dorchester where he lives with his wife Robin and their two children.
 

Susan Sgroi

Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Information Technology

Susan Sgroi is Executive Vice President, Human Resources and Information Technology at Eversource Energy.  Eversource Energy is New England’s largest utility, serving 4.4 million electric, natural gas and water customers in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  

In this role, she leads the company’s enterprise-wide people strategy, technology operations, and cybersecurity efforts—aligning culture, capability, and digital resilience to support Eversource’s mission of delivering safe, reliable service to customers.

In Human Resources, Sue leads key functional areas including Employee & Labor Relations, Talent & Organization Development, Culture & Engagement, HR Consulting, Compensation, Benefits Strategy, and HR Operations & Service Delivery. In Information Technology, she oversees IT Business Solutions, Security & Compliance, Project Management, Enterprise Architecture & Quality Assurance, and Infrastructure.

Sue joined Eversource from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts, where she served as Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Prior to that, Sue served as the Executive Vice President of Human Resources for Fidelity Investments and Executive Vice President of Human Resources for Citizens Bank Financial Group.

Sue holds a master’s degree in organizational development from American University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bowdoin College. Sue serves on the Boards of Directors of Everett Bank and St. Francis House, the largest day shelter for the homeless in Boston.
